Mapleton State School acknowledges the traditional custodians of the place we now call our school.
We pay our respects to the Elders past and present and are proud to be supporting and encouraging emerging Indigenous leaders every day.
Term 3 Week 4 2024
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we continue through Term 3, I am pleased to share some highlights since our last newsletter and updates on upcoming events happening around the school.
Semester 1 Results
Mapleton State School continues to uphold our mantra of being "Top of the Range". Our Semester 1 academic results are outstanding, with all students achieving a C or better in English and Mathematics. Specifically, more than 70% of students in Prep - Year 2 achieved an A or B in both subjects, while over 65% of students in Years 3 - 6 achieved the same high outcomes. This success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff, who consistently go above and beyond to ensure all our students reach their full potential.
School Opinion Survey
The 2024 School Opinion Survey is now open, and we encourage all parents to participate. You should have received a link via an email from the department. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and your feedback is invaluable. The results help affirm the strengths of our school and community and guide our future strategic planning.
NAIDOC Week
Early this term, we celebrated NAIDOC Week with a day full of cultural activities. A big thank you to our amazing OSHC providers, KidzMob, for their support in making this day a success. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with and appreciate Indigenous cultures.
Bullying No Way: National Week of Action
Bullying No Way Week will take place in Week 6, during which students will participate in activities designed to help them be the best versions of themselves. These activities align with the Mapleton Way, ensuring all students continue to feel welcome, included, and safe at our school.
Book Week
Book Week is fast approaching in Week 7, with the theme "Reading is Magic." Mrs. Page and her team will be busy transforming our library in preparation. Our Book Week parade will be held on Monday, 19th August, at 9 am. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the date.
Flexible Student Free Day
A reminder that the school will be closed on Friday, 30th August, for a designated student free day set by the department. KidzMob will be open on this day for parents who need care arrangements.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent-teacher interviews will take place on Tuesday, 10th September. Keep an eye on SZapp for details on booking a time with your student's classroom teacher as we get closer.
Student Confidentiality
A reminder to parents to maintain student and family confidentiality when discussing matters with other parents, or in the community. If you have any concerns, please raise them with your child’s classroom teacher as this is the first port of call.
Facilities Update
We are excited to announce that earlier this term, the department approved a significant refurbishment for K Block. Planning is already underway, with work set to begin over the Christmas break.
Additionally, the refurbishment of our amenities block, including painting, is now complete. A special thank you to our amazing business manager, Lois, for her work in managing our facilities. As you can see, the school has undergone a number of improvements over the last year thanks to her planning and coordination.
Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement with our school community. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Warm regards,
Aaron Willis

Prep News
This term in Prep we are learning to retell stories and experiences. We have been reading traditional fairy tales and retelling them in different ways. We have enjoyed retelling stories using our Puppet Theatre. It was also great fun acting out the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff on the bridge in front of the classroom! The children have reflected on how stories and experiences make them feel.
Year 2 News
Hello Year Two Families!
I know this was last term, but who doesn’t love a good before and after photo. Some pictures speak 1000 words. It sure was another great Colour Run, thanks to our amazing Chappy Vicki.
Also from last Term, I need to acknowledge our friends who conquered the Reading Challenge. WOW! The competition was fierce this year. It really is a giant achievement to read 100 books in 10 weeks. I take my hat off to each of these determined readers who did not give up.
Special mention to our top 3 totals
Stella 124
Bronte 301
Vada 343
That is dedication! Every year I am encouraged to hear parents report that they have noticed great improvement in their child’s reading and ‘they are now loving reading’. I am grateful for piñatas and chocolate!
Another great day from this Term was NADIOC Day. How lucky were we to partake in a whole day of culture and learning?
It is with great excitement we welcome Marissa and Rafie from Story Dogs. Who very soon will be reading with some of our students. We cannot wait!
Take care

Year 3 News
Welcome Indie and Alice, we are glad you have joined our class at Mapleton.
We are feeling very Olympic!
Maths
We are focussing on our 3x and 4x multiplication facts this term as well as learning about fractions and measurement.
English
Our assessment this term is to create a spoken text to express a preference and opinions about a favourite activity.
We completed an activity titled “The Best Part Of Me”. The students chose a part of their body and expressed a preference by giving reasons.
