Term 3 Week 10
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the end of Term 3, it’s a pleasure to reflect on the achievements and memorable moments that have marked this busy and successful term. Our school community continues to thrive, thanks to the commitment and involvement of our students, staff, and parents.
Book Week Success
A huge thank you to all the parents for the incredible effort you put into making Book Week a spectacular event this year. The creativity and enthusiasm of our students were on full display, with their passion for reading brought to life in an array of amazing costumes. Special thanks go to Mrs. Page and her team of Book Week Pixies for transforming our library into an interactive space that captured the imaginations of our students. The joy and excitement this brought to our school were truly wonderful to see.
Bully No Way Week
This term, our students also participated in "Bully No Way Week," where they engaged in important discussions and activities centred around the theme of belonging. Guided by their teachers, students explored what it means to create an inclusive and supportive community strongly reflecting ‘The Mapleton Way’.
Year 5 and 6 Camp Success
I am also delighted to report that the Year 5 and 6 camp at Currimundi was a great success. The students demonstrated outstanding effort and behaviour throughout the camp, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved. A special thank you goes out to Ms. Moore, Ms. Ward, and Mrs. Frawley for their dedication in organising and supervising the camp. Their hard work ensured that our students had a safe, fun, and educational experience.
Sporting Achievements
On the sporting front, our students have made us proud with their participation in the Nambour District Athletics. We had a strong group of athletes representing Mapleton State School, and I am thrilled to announce that Amaris (Year 5) and Cooper (Year 6) have qualified for the State Championships in Brisbane next term. This is a tremendous achievement, and we wish them the best of luck as they prepare to compete at the state level.
Term 4 Swimming Programs
As we prepare for Term 4, I want to inform you of our upcoming swimming programs. Our Prep to Year 4 students will attend swimming sessions at Palmwood Aquatic Centre on the 25th, 27th, and 29th of November. Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 students will participate in a Surf Awareness program during the last five weeks of Term 4. More details about these programs will be provided early next term. Additionally, the Years 3-6 Swimming Carnival is scheduled for Monday, 2nd of December, at Palmwoods Aquatic Center.
Thank You to the P&C
Lastly, I want to extend my sincere thanks to our P&C for their unwavering support throughout this term. From fundraising efforts to organizing the Father’s Day Stall, and the ongoing work on our school garden, their contributions have been invaluable. The garden, in particular, is coming along beautifully and will continue to take shape in Term 4.
As we approach the September break, I wish you all a wonderful and restful time with your families. Thank you for your continued support of Mapleton State School, and I look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 4.
Warm regards,
Aaron Willis

Year 1 News
The Year 1 class enjoyed a walk to the Mapleton Lily Ponds to observe the natural, managed and constructed features of our local environment. They were also asked the question, ‘What feature would you add to this place to make it better?’ Here are some of their suggestions… a water slide, a petting zoo, a shop, quad bikes with a track, some more trees, extra shelters for sitting.
Some thoughtful and great ideas! We also discussed how to care for our special places and the students were able to identify excellent ways that they care for the Lily Pond area. Well done Year 1 students.
Year 3 News
Welcome Amelie, we are glad you have joined our class at Mapleton.
Welcome also to Miss Ross who will be teaching and learning with us on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We are fortunate to have you with us.
Book Week
So much fun! The students created a fabulous display for the library.
We also had some very creative costumes for the Book Week parade.
Bullying No Way!
We tested our ICT skills to create some posters to show that at every space at Mapleton State School everyone belongs.
Year 5 News
The last 5 weeks seem to have gone very quickly; the Grade Five students have been extremely busy. The criteria for our english assessment were for the students to create a persuasive speech to a particular audience about something that could be changed or upgraded at our school. Most of the students chose “Getting new soccer goals". Well, I have to say that these persuasive speeches, which were read to Mr Willis on Monday were a force to be dealt with.
In Science we looked at “the transfer of light” and made models with mirrors and walls in, the students choose different ways to allow the light to reflect off these objects.
Baxter’s Creek – Can you hear me?
Our Kids in Action days were Wednesday and Thursday last week. We visited The Sunshine Coast University on Wednesday and the Maroochy Botanical Gardens on Thursday. The students have been working on many different aspects of our presentation and visiting Baxter’s Creek. We have taken videos and photos and spend time listening to the birds and animals that live there. All of the students helped to paint the banner and we have everyone’s hand printed on this. Students worked together on “The acknowledge of Country”, we all made models of bird hides and posters that were displayed on the day. I am extremely proud to say that the Year 5 students did a fantastic job and participated in all the activities over the two days. I look forward to Kids in Action 2025 as each year the students have more knowledge of their local environment and ways that we can look after it.
Last Friday many of the Year 5 Students went to OZtag at Mooloolah. Another fantastic day was had and all the students were respectful, played fairly and had fun. Thanks to Mr Price for organising.
Finally, to all my students and families, have a well-earned break, enjoy some special time doing what you enjoy. Thank you for your support during Term 3.
Instrumental News
Queensland Symphony Orchestra & Gallery of Modern Art Excursion
Our Instrumental Music students were treated to a musically inspiring concert by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at the ABC Southbank Studio in Brisbane on Wednesday, 28 August. Students experienced the full sound of the symphony orchestra playing movie themes, instrument and section demonstrations and the musical adaptation of the book ‘The Flying Orchestra’. It was an exhilarating performance topped off by the opportunity to meet and chat with musicians from the orchestra after the concert.
Following the concert, we soaked up the surrounds of Southbank enjoying our lunch and then attended Kid’s Space at the Gallery of Modern Art. Students participated in a creative and fun activity, making a shell adornment.
Our students represented Mapleton State School with exemplary manners and behaviour throughout every aspect of the excursion. It was a joyful, musical and creative day.
