Term 4 Week 9 2024
From the Principal
Dear Mapleton State School Families,
As the year draws to a close, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on our journey, share important updates, and celebrate the upcoming events that mark the end of our school year.
Farewell to Julianne Emmert
We bid farewell to Julianne Emmert, who has informed the department that she will not be returning to Mapleton State School. Julianne’s contributions to our school and Queensland State Education have been outstanding, and we are incredibly grateful for her long and distinguished career supporting children and families across the state. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
Here are a few heartfelt words Julianne would like to share with our community:
“To the Mapleton School Community,
As you are aware, I have been on extended leave due to health reasons. After much consideration, I have decided not to return to Mapleton State School. This was a very difficult decision and not taken lightly, as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, surrounded by such supportive staff, wonderful parents, and amazing students. Mapleton School and its community is a beautiful environment, and I will miss everyone dearly.
I wish you all the best for the future.
Take care,
Julianne Emmert”

Year 2 News
This Term has been very exciting, we took an excursion to the Nambour Historical Museum, it was absolutely amazing! Students were enchanted by the many rooms full of rich history. Toys from the 1920’s, wedding fashions across the century, kitchen and laundry artifacts, old washer boards and wringers, a room full of huge model ship replicas (made from matchsticks), whole room of telecommunications, cars, school classroom, hospital and the old steam trains (to name a few). The highlight for many students was to board the old Shay locomotive, which was travelled from Nambour, Dulong then extended onto Mapleton in 1915. Arguably a close second to this was sitting in the old model T Ford. This type of learning cannot happen in the classroom and therefore it was a great day of learning. We got up close, onboard and immersed in the wonder of it all. I highly recommend this place over the holidays, for a $2 donation you really will be surprised.
Also, this term students have enjoyed the introduction of the classroom ‘Shop’. Where they can ‘earn and learn’, by collecting, counting and spending their coins of various items of their choosing. We have a new addition to our classroom, a mini trampoline. There has been ‘some’ paperwork to achieve the goal, but I am confident it will be highly utilised and supportive for students who benefit from frequent movement breaks. We hope to be jumping next week!
Take Care and have a wonderful time with your family this holiday.

Year 3 News
Welcome Harlan, we are glad you have joined our class at Mapleton.
English
We have begun writing a narrative using the main characters from ‘Kumiko and the Dragon’ by Briony Stewart.
We will publish our stories to share them with our friends and families. How exciting!
Maths
This term we have been investigating the likelihood of events and conducting chance experiments. We have solved word problems and created algorithms. An algorithm is a set of instructions for completing a task.
Please keep practising addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts over the holidays. The quick recall of these really does make our maths journey easier.
Thank you
It has been a pleasure to be part of your child’s year 3 schooling journey. Thank you for raising polite and respectful learners.
Wishing you all a safe and healthy festive season.
