Mapleton State School acknowledges the traditional custodians of the place we now call our school.
We pay our respects to the Elders past and present and are proud to be supporting and encouraging emerging Indigenous leaders every day.
Term 1 Week 4
From the Principal
Welcome
Welcome to our first newsletter for 2023. It was wonderful to see our students settle quickly into the school year. I have heard from staff and families, at how easily our students transitioned into their new classes. During a recent visit, our Assistant Regional Director commented on the positive learning environment at Mapleton State School.
School Office Hours Bell Times for 2023

This will be reviewed once OSHC is operating.

Prep News
The Preppies have begun exploring two-dimensional shapes and their features in maths. We have studied squares and circles so far. The children have enjoyed hunting for objects in the classroom that are squares and circles. They were also challenged to use their bodies to make shapes. The squares weren’t too hard, but circles were a little tricky!
In literacy, we are busy learning our first group of letter/sound correspondences. The children have learnt the yellow sounds (s/a/t/p/i/n), and a picture and action to help them remember them. We can now begin the exciting task of learning to read and make some simple words (sat, pin, it...). This will take lots of practise, but will become easier with regular support at school and home.
Last week the Preps and the Year 6s got together for the first time to begin the Buddy Program. It was hard to tell who was more excited, but it was possibly the Year 6s! The teachers were impressed with how well the senior students looked after their buddies in our first activity for the year. They will get together every Wednesday for morning tea/play, and periodically throughout the term for activities.
Book Club
Welcome to another year of book. The first issue has been closed and orders have arrived. The orders will be handed to classrooms next week. A big thank you to all who have ordered as this gives the school reward points and allows Sheila our Librarian to order books for the library.
OSHC - Kidz Mob
Hello Mapleton SS families! We would like to introduce ourselves; we are Kidz Mob! We are a family and community-based childcare business striving to nurture the next generation. We are owned by Charlotte and Charlie, who live on the Sunshine Coast, have a young daughter, and have 8+ years of combined experience within the outside hours care and childcare industry.
Charlotte is the current Coordinator of Palmwoods Kids Club OSHC, based at Palmwoods State School. The service is a pivotal part of the local community, and the Vacation Care program is renowned across the Sunshine Coast. Charlotte is eager to transfer all of these skills and fun educational programming strategies to the Kidz Mob Mapleton OSHC. Charlie is an Aboriginal man of the Gubbi Gubbi and Gunggari people, meaning that Kidz Mob identifies as an Indigenous business. We are passionate and committed to creating an environment that embraces unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and other Australians, and a culture that fosters equality, and equity.
Outside School Hours Care provides a cross-age environment that fosters the development of social and life skills. Children in OSHC have opportunities to interact and engage with children in different year levels, and form friendships outside their usual group.
Our environment complements the programs offered at school and assists in the consolidation of learning. OSHC encourages learning through children’s interests being incorporated into play experiences. When children attend a Kidz Mob OSHC they can expect to be engaged in play-based curriculum, consume nutritious food, participate in a range of outdoor physical activities, and build trusting relationships with Educators and peers.
Kidz Mob Mapleton OSHC will operate:
Period | Time |
Before School Care (BSC) | From 6.30 AM to 9.00 AM |
After School Care (ASC) | From 3.00 PM to 6.00 PM |
Vacation Care (VAC) | From 6.30 AM to 6.00 PM |
Extended Hours Care (EXT) | From 6.00 PM to 9.00 PM |
Before School Care will include a range of indoor and outdoor programmed and spontaneous activities, children will have the opportunity to have breakfast at the service also. Preps and Year One’s will be escorted to class by an Educator each morning, who will ensure they get to class safely, and unpack their bag for the day.
After School Care will include afternoon tea, and a range of indoor and outdoor programmed and spontaneous activities designed to suit all the children’s individual interests and needs.
The Vacation Care program will include a range of Excursion, Incursion and Service Days. On each vacation care day there will be a range of indoor, outdoor, craft, cultural, and sensory activities. Each day’s activities will be programmed around a specific theme that we have identified meets the needs/interests of the children attending or has been suggested by a child, parent/guardian, educator or community member. Breakfast, morning tea and afternoon tea will be provided to children, and the food provided for the day will be included on the program.
Parents ‘Night Out’ or ‘Date Night’ will be offered once a month on a Friday night. The service will be open from 6pm to 9pm for children to attend for a fun night of movies, board games, and dinner and dessert will be provided. We hope this will give parents/caregivers the opportunity to go out to dinner, see a movie, or go to a social event!
The service will be based out of the A Block building within the school.
